FUNNY OR NOT?
Two westerners find themselves in a small foreign hospital where no one speaks english; one of them is very sick. Late in the evening the sick one starts to get much worse and so the healthy one goes to get help. 'Healthy' returns with the only two nurses on the ward plus a random man from across the hall. 'Sick' is crying from the pain and 'healthy' is crying in frustration, the situation 'seems' quite serious, at least to them.
Or is it? Maybe its not serious at all, in fact just maybe its downright hysterical, the two nurses and ransom man think it is, they are just standing there laughing like it is the funniest thing they have ever seen.
What on earth is going on?
I've thought about this story many times and no matter how I look at it i just can't see the funny side; maybe it is because no matter how hard i try to be neutral i'm always siding with the westerners. Maybe if i really could see it from the nurses side i'd think it was funny too...'two gigantic white foreigners, all their worldly positions strewn about the room. The guy just laying there in his yellow christmas boxers, the lady continuously speaking to us despite the fact we can't understand a word she is saying all the while she is doing these ridiculous arm motions trying to mime everything. O yah and then late in the night they both get hysterical, start crying and repeating, doctor, doctor, dddoooccctttoooorrrr, dddooooccctttoooorrr, doctor!! Don't they know there are no doctors in hospitals after 5pm, what do they want us to do...call him at home?
Haha, OK maybe that is funny, but maybe not! I still think not, what do you think?
